I rarely get sick. I don't like to be. I think coughing is lame sauce and having a stuffy nose really puts a damper on your social life. For the past week I've been subject to a very strange and morphic cold/flu that went from flu and fever to cough to more coughing to sneezes, stuffy nose, and back down to coughing and now I feel much better :o)
Although I have to say, this has been a learning experience. I have learned quite a bit about the over the counter medicines available in the UK. After being turned down from the doctor because they don't see people with colds (although I wanted to explain to her that I am really prone to sinus infections and bronchitis because of this deviated septum thing, but what the hay!) I ventured to the pharmacy and there are two basic kind of cough medicines they will sell to you: 'Chesty cough'- for phlegm coughs
'Tickle Cough' - for dry throats.
There is also a brand of syrup that is called 'Night Nurse' and 'Day Nurse.' All of which sound mildly suggestive. After several trips to the pharmacy (one such trip she gave me a free pedometer... hmm...) and with a very patient Tim waiting for me to read all the labels in the Tesco medicine section I believe I have discovered a sinus relief that (not to jinx it) seems to be doing the trick. Either that or what the guy who drove the guy who drove the night bus home last night told me is true, English colds last 9 days for better or worse. There you have it.
All this to say there is a silver lining to every cloud. The past few weeks I have repeated popped cough drops and cold medicine out of those little foil packages, and I find that so satisfying! It is why I always try to by the type of gum that goes in that foil package thingy, you know the one. It is on par with me to popping bubble wrap.
